Villa Arbutus...

...sits on the south coast of this unspoilt, fertile and verdant Ionian island

is closest to the villa - less than 10 mins drive. This is a superb beach for lazing, sunbathing or snorkelling - the turquoise water is crystal clear and extremely safe for bathing.

The local taverna was excellent and we enjoyed romantic midnight swims on the way home. Terry M, UK

As you lie relaxing on a sunbed under one of the umbrellas (they are usually free on this beach) you can clearly see as a backdrop, two of the other Ionian Islands - Ithaka and Cephalonia. You might enjoy taking a boat trip from Vassiliki or Nidri to these islands.

from the taverna.

After the beach you may want to visit the excellent, friendly taverna. Maybe it's just a coffee, ice or cooling drink - you will not be disappointed.

The peninsula is criss-crossed with intriguing paths and tracks - excellent for cycling or walking.

We had many stunning walks, we admired the flora and fungi along with the views. We bathed in the sea which was warm and wonderful. Chrissie C, UK

A warren of old alleys and squares make up the old town of Lefkada - with it's unique Anglo-Venetian architecture .

Many fine restaurants and bars - it hums into the early hours.

Top European wind-surfing location, closest town to the villa for shopping.

Numerous bars and restaurants for al-fresco waterside dining. All the usual modern facilities - ATMs, pharmacy, health centre, post office, etc (and a damn fine bakery).
It's also possible to take cruises from here to visit the nearby islands. There are stables close to Vassiliki for those wanting to ride.

Born among our olive trees - it was a privilege to watch them learning to fly.

It's undoubtedly true this family of owls would not have made their home in the grove had it not been so quiet and peaceful.
It was just the holiday we all needed. In the middle of the olive groves, we enjoyed the sound of the cicadas in the daytime and the crickets at night.

It was a joy to spot a school of dolphins frolicking in the bay at the Baby Beach. Can't pretend it's a common experience but when it happens, then what a treat!

- friendly only so long as they are kept away from the juicy garden!

In this part of the island the goats and sheep wander freely along the lanes and over the hillsides with their bells evocatively ringing as they move. One of the guests commented that:
'The goat bells are a marvellous symphony and ought to be recorded'

During the autumn, the olive grove is carpeted with wild cyclamen growing in great profusion on terraces, from hollows in trees - in every nook and cranny! It really is beautiful to see.
